The Healing Power of Art: Lower Your Stress and Boost Health Through Creativity
Did you know that participating in the arts can improve both your mental and physical well-being? Whether it's painting, drawing, sculpting, or crafting, creative expression has been shown to reduce stress, enhance memory, and promote a sense of calm and accomplishment. Engaging in art has powerful mental and physical health benefits—and you don’t need to be an artist to experience them. A 2016 study by Girija Kaimal, Kendra Ray, and Juan Muniz found that just 45 minutes of creative activity can significantly lower cortisol levels, regardless of skill or experience. Cortisol is a hormone the body produces in response to stress. While helpful in short bursts, consistently high cortisol levels can lead to anxiety, fatigue, weakened immunity, and other health issues. Lowering cortisol through simple creative activities like drawing, painting, or crafting helps calm the mind, reduce stress, and support overall well-being. Whether you're doodling or designing something complex, making art offers a healthy outlet to unwind and reconnect with yourself. Here at Oceana, our art classes are designed for all skill levels. Whether you're a lifelong artist or just curious to try something new, you'll find a welcoming, supportive space to explore your creativity. Come join us and experience the many benefits that the arts can bring to your life—your health and happiness may thank you! Be sure to check the schedule in the Hilltop highlights, on the Weekly eBlasts, on the website, plus the schedule is posted in the club house and at the art studio. We had an acrylic pouring class on wood cutouts to hang on your wall or to make a keyholder, a mosaic class, and a jewelry fun class! Join us...won't you?? |
